Op-Ed: The Insanity of the Inflation Reduction Act

The following opinion was written and submitted by Paul Plante.

In a now world-famous TWEET on TWITTER by TWEETER-in-chief Joseph Robinette Biden, Junior, the first of his name, or any name for that matter, since Scipio Africanus, and Julius Caesar, and Pompey and even Alexander the Great never got there, to achieve the status of LEADER OF THE WORLD MAGNUS, we common folks, not only here in America, one of Joe’s many provinces that he governs, wisely it is said, but all over the world, as well, because there are a lot of common people out there like us, and like us, Joe has to show them some love, too, were informed as follows by Joe, to wit:

Joe Biden @JoeBiden
United States government official

For decades, climate deniers blocked any meaningful progress in dealing with the climate crisis, but not this year.

Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, we’re taking the most aggressive action to confront the climate crisis ever.

end quotes

And people, ALL of us, not only here in America, or on earth for that matter, since this is at least an inter-galactic matter, given that what we do or don’t do here on earth affects the entire universe, inextricably linked as it all is, owe Joe a debt of gratitude for clearing that up for us, because silly us, spank ourselves on our bottoms for being so silly, we actually thought the INFLATION REDUCTION ACT was about, er, well, hey, c’mon man, you know, reducing inflation.

And where would we get such a cock-a-mamie idea as that?

How about the Cape Charles Mirror thread http://www.capecharlesmirror.com/news/r … ns-desk-2/ titled “Rep. Luria Votes to Lower Costs, Combat Climate Change and Tackle Inflation, Sends Inflation Reduction Act to President Biden’s Desk” on August 21, 2022, wherein we were informed as follows, to wit:

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Last Friday, Rep. Elaine Luria (D-VA) voted to send the Inflation Reduction Act to the President’s desk and lower health care and prescription drug costs, combat climate change, tackle the root causes of inflation, and reduce the deficit.

end quotes

Yessirree Bob, people, look right there and you shall see it writ large – Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act was going to tackle the root causes of inflation, and reduce the deficit to combat climate change!

EXCEPT THAT IS ALL PRE-ELECTION POLITICAL BULL****, because the IRA doesn’t tackle the root causes of inflation, it is itself a root cause of inflation, it does nothing to reduce the deficit, it adds to the deficit, and it does nothing to combat climate change, because the massive environmental disruptions that are going to result from the implementation of Joe’s IRA are going to be drivers of climate change and weather disruptions!

Going back to that political propaganda concerning the Biden IRA from August 21, 2022, it continued as follows, to wit:

“Rising prices have impacted working families across the country, and the Inflation Reduction Act will put money back into the pockets of Coastal Virginians by lowering health care costs, reducing energy prices, creating jobs, and fighting inflation.”

end quotes

And the jobs being created by the BORROWED MONEY (don’t get sucked into that Biden-esque horse**** that it is paid for) of Joe’s IRA are in some large part the cause of the inflation that the Federal Reserve is now trying desperately to contain with interest rate hikes, while Joe’s IRA creates more and more of it to the detriment of our NATIONAL SECURITY and ECONOMY!

So as Joe’s IRA continues to pump more and more money into the economy to grow it, the Federal Reserve is working as hard as it can to bring that same economy into a recession, and if that isn’t a definition of INSANITY in action, there never will be one!

Going back to the political propaganda from August 21, 2022, it continues, as follows:

“The Inflation Reduction Act will also combat climate change and invest in American energy to end our dependence on foreign energy sources like Russia and China,” Rep. Luria said.

end quotes

End our dependence on foreign energy sources like China?

We don’t depend on China as an energy source.

To the contrary, we are exporting energy to China, which is not reducing, but increasing our energy costs, which increases inflation – not reduces it, as we see in this Rigzone article titled “Increasing US Oil Exports Push Prices Higher” by Bloomberg/Immanual John Milton and Julia Fanzeres on March 01, 2023, to wit:

Oil finished a tumultuous session higher with record US exports slowing inventory builds, igniting crude market bulls even as persistent fears of higher interest rates dragged Wall Street lower.

West Texas Intermediate settled at its highest in nine sessions, with the Energy Information Administration reporting that exports jumped 23%, slowing recent inventory builds.

Encouraging data out of China further supported the bulls’ thesis that global demand was on the mend and could support oil markets even amid concerns the US was headed for economic contraction.

“[EIA data] could be an indication that Asian demand, Chinese demand for oil could be returning,” said Rob Thummel, a portfolio manager at Tortoise Capital Advisors.

end quotes

Going back to the propaganda, because that propaganda sets the stage for where we have to go to next to further demonstrate the SHEER INSANITY of this so-called Inflation Reduction Act, it concludes as follows, and here, with that in the record, I will pause for the moment, to wit:

“The Inflation Reduction Act delivers for Coastal Virginians in the short-term while making long-term investments to reduce the deficit and build a better future for generations of Americans.”

According to 126 leading economists—including seven Nobel Prize winners, three former chairs of the Council of Economic Advisers, two former Treasury Secretaries— the Inflation Reduction Act “will fight inflation and lower costs for American families while setting the stage for strong, stable, and broadly-shared long-term economic growth.”

* * * *

The legislation also represents the largest single federal investment to combat climate change and promote energy security through growing our domestic energy production and ending our reliance on foreign sources.

The Inflation Reduction Act is fully paid for and will not add to the national debt or raise taxes on working families, and will reduce the deficit by more than $100 billion over the next decade.

Paul R Plante, NYSPE says:

And before we go further into this insanity on steroids called the Biden Inflation Reduction Act, which is really nothing more than a relabeling of the “GREEN NEW DEAL” of the radical progressivist AOC, we really need, as a free people rapidly losing our freedom, to look at the very dangerous implications of this “climate denier” term Joe Biden slings around as a pejorative (a word expressing contempt or disapproval, as in “most of what Joe Biden says is inflammatory and filled with pejoratives”) and as a condemnation of those who do not share Joe’s ideological beliefs.

Simply stated, a “denier” of anything, including “climate,” as if anyone were actually stupid enough to deny the existence of climates all over the globe, is a person who refuses to accept the existence, truth, or validity of something despite evidence or general support for it.

So what then is a “climate denier,” where “climate” is “the long-term pattern of weather in a particular area?”

Another definition of “denier” is “a person who says that something did not happen or that a situation does not exist, especially something that most people agree did happen.”

So, are “climate deniers” saying weather does not happen?

And who would say that?

Obviously, people who spend ALL their time in climate-controlled environments like limousines, office buildings and Los Vegas casinos.

So, all in all, the term “climate denier” as Joe Biden uses it is simply a stupid, meaningless, gibberish term, because Joe has no idea of what he is talking about when he calls people “climate deniers” and blames global warming and climate change on them.

And let me say here that I am an engineer, not a “scientist,” and the difference, which is important to understand, is this:

Scientists create models of what they think or believe “reality” consists of, or is like, and then, having created their models, which become articles of faith or shibboleths (a principle, or belief distinguishing a particular class or group of people, as in “the majority, under the influence of vague state-sponsored shibboleths, understand Joe Biden to be associating himself with the doctrine that ALL changes to climate are exclusively the fault of CO2”), they rigorously try to defend them.

An engineer such as myself, on the other hand, with a societal duty to safeguard (protect from harm or damage) life, health and property, works with the reality the scientists try to make models of, and as a consequence of that societal duty, has a further duty, as I perceive it, anyway, being licensed as an engineer, to pick those models to pieces to find all the flaws in the reasoning underpinning them, which brings us back around to Joe’s attack on those who do not share his ideological beliefs as “climate deniers,” which like most of the idiotic slogans that come out of Washington, D.C. these days is a stupid and empty term which of course, for that reason, appeals to the masses who take what Joe Biden says about anything as the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, and thus, makes those of us who dare to question Joe Biden on this subject of “climate change” into enemies of the state, heretics and apostates, with our views on the nature of reality being considered as “ideologically suspect!”

And there let me rest for the moment.

THE CAPE CHARLES MIRROR MARCH 6, 2023 AT 11:31 AM

Paul R Plante, NYSPE says:

And while we are on this subject of what is becoming “ideologically-based STATE SCIENCE” under Joe Biden, if we go to an article titled “What Is Scientifically Based Research? A Guide For Teachers” by the National Institute for Literacy, we find this following guidance, to wit:

To be considered scientifically based, a research finding must be presented in a way that enables other researchers to reach the same results when they repeat the experiment.

True scientific knowledge is public and open to challenge.

It is held tentatively, subject to change based on contrary evidence.

end quotes

EXCEPT not in the case of climate change – the findings of the “STATE” with regard to “climate change,” as WORLD LEADER Joe Biden makes incandescently clear with his condemnation of “climate deniers” as heretics and apostates, are NOT open to challenge, period.

And that brings those of us older folks with working memories to a Wikipedia article titled “Censorship of science in the Soviet Union,” which is where I believe Joe Biden draws his inspiration from, where we have as follows:

The censorship of science in the Soviet Union affected scientific research in various fields.

Certain scientific fields in the Soviet Union were suppressed primarily after being labeled as ideologically suspect.

end quotes

Here in the U.S. under Joe Biden, anything that disagrees with Joe’s pet theory that it is only CO 2 that affects the climate, is ideologically suspect, as is anyone who dares to disagree with Joe’s pet theory, which incidentally, is not based on science, at all, but politics.

Staying with that Wikipedia article for a moment, it continues as follows:

Physics

In the late 1940s, some areas of physics, especially quantum mechanics but also special and general relativity, were also criticized on grounds of “idealism”.

Soviet physicists, such as K. V. Nikolskij and D. Blokhintzev, developed a version of the statistical interpretation of quantum mechanics, which was seen as more adhering to the principles of dialectical materialism.

However, although initially planned, this process did not go as far as defining an “ideologically correct” version of physics and purging those scientists who refused to conform to it, because this was recognized as potentially too harmful to the Soviet nuclear program.

As Krylov writes on the perils of ideological intrusion into science, “Stalin rolled back the planned campaign against physics and instructed Beria to give physicists some space; this led to significant advances and accomplishments by Soviet scientists in several domains.”

“However, neither Stalin nor the subsequent Soviet leaders were able to let go of the controls completely.”

“Government control over science turned out to be a grand failure, and the attempt to patch the widening gap between the West and the East by espionage did not help.”

end quotes

So will government control over science here in the United States under Joe Biden have a different result other than another grand failure?

I for one obviously do not think so or I wouldn’t be taking the time to write about the insanity of Joe Biden’s IRA, which, if Joe’s theory about CO2 is correct, will itself be a huge contribution to not only environmental degradation as a result of Joe’s “BUY AMERICAN” requirements for concrete, steel, lumber, copper wire, etc., all of which require a lengthy process of first extraction and then processing, all of which requires prodigious amounts of energy which isn’t coming from batteries, windmills or solar panels, but to the production of prodigious amounts of CO2, as well.

Consider Portland cement alone, which Joe is going to need yards and yards of for his IRA, Infrastructure, and CHIPS policies to be fulfilled – Portland cement is obtained by heating limestone and clay or other silicate mixtures at high temperatures (>1500°C= 2732°F) in a rotating kiln.

And if we go to the technical paper titled “Alternative Fuels in Cement Manufacturing” by Moses P.M. Chinyama published August 9th, 2011, we find as follows with respect to heating the kiln where Joe’s Portland cement is being made, to wit:

Cement is considered one of the most important building materials around the world.

Cement production is an energy-intensive process consuming thermal energy of the order of 3.3 GJ/tonne of clinker produced.

Electrical energy consumption is about 90 – 120 kWh/tonne of cement (Giddings, et al, 2000; European Commission [EC] 2001).

Historically, the primary fuel used in cement industry is coal.

A wide range of other fuels such as gas, oil, liquid waste materials, solid waste materials and petroleum coke have all been successfully used as sources of energy for firing cement-making kilns, either on their own or in various combinations.

end quotes

All of which produce CO2!

Need more Portland cement, Joe Biden?

Paul R Plante, NYSPE says:

Another definition of a “denier” is as follows and it is an important one because it applies directly to American president Jospeh Robinette Biden, Jr., to wit:

DENIER (noun): someone who refuses to accept the truth about something.

What Joe refuses to accept the truth about is as follows:

JOE BIDEN’S ENERGY-INTENSIVE “GREEN” POLICIES ARE A DIRECT CAUSE OF INFLATION IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND WILL CONTRIBUTE TO GLOBAL WARMING AND CLIMATE CHANGE BY VIRTUE OF THEIR ENERGY-INTENSIVE NATURE AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL DISRUPTION AND DEVASTATION THEY WILL CAUSE!

ENERGY INTENSIVE: Energy intensity is defined as the amount of energy used to produce a given level of output or activity.

What are the four most energy-intensive industries?

Within the industrial sector, manufacturing accounts for the largest share of annual industrial energy consumption, generally followed by mining, construction, and agriculture.

(2) Energy-intensive industry – The term “energy-intensive industry” means an industry that uses significant quantities of energy as part of its primary economic activities, including— (A) information technology, including data centers containing electrical equipment used in processing, storing, and transmitting digital information; (B) consumer product manufacturing; (C) food processing; (D) materials manufacturers, including— (i) aluminum; (ii) chemicals; (iii) forest and paper products; (iv) metal casting; (v) glass; (vi) petroleum refining; (vii) mining; and (viii) steel; (E) water and wastewater treatment facilities, including systems that treat municipal, industrial, and agricultural waste; and (F) other energy-intensive industries, as determined by the Secretary. – 42 USC § 17111(a)(2)

* Solar Panels: Although solar energy does not emit any greenhouse gases as it generates electricity, manufacturing the technology is energy intensive. – Climate Leadership Council, Why We Should Leverage U.S. Solar’s Carbon Advantage, by Shayla Ragimov April 29, 2022

CHIP FABS: “Chip fabs are an important economic resource, particularly in upstate New York where they’re located, but they are going to require an incredible amount of electricity.” – “A surge in chip fabs could make renewable energy targets harder to reach” Rebekah F. Ward, Albany, New York Times Union. Jan. 15, 2023

“EUVs are also a prime illustration of how the push to make semiconductors that are smaller, more capable, and more energy-efficient is leading to manufacturing processes that are more complicated and energy-intensive. Each machine is rated to consume about 1 megawatt of electricity, about 10 times more than previous generations of equipment. With no alternative available to make the most advanced kinds of semiconductors, the chip industry is a potentially significant stumbling block to the drive to reduce global carbon emissions” – “Chipmaking’s Next Big Thing Guzzles as Much Power as Entire Countries” by Betty Hou and Stephen Stapczynski, BLOOMBERG, August 25, 2022.

“Vast amounts of energy are required to manufacture the chips that lie beneath the hood of a whole manner of items — from fighter jets and cars, to kettles and doorbells. A team of researchers at Harvard University wrote in 2020 that chip manufacturing “accounts for most of the carbon output” from electronic devices. While some of this energy comes from renewable sources, much of it comes from fossil fuels like coal and gas, and some chipmakers now emit more carbon than well-known carmakers. Several aspects of the semiconductor production process require vast amounts of power, according to Forrester analyst Glenn O’Donnell. To begin with, the chipmakers need to take raw silicon (i.e. sand), melt it down, purify it, and then “grow” the silicon “rods,” O’Donnell told CNBC. “The furnaces [needed] to do this are extremely energy hungry,” he said. The rods of purified silicon are then “sliced like deli meat into thin wafers,” upon which chips are built, O’Donnell added. Various materials are layered onto the wafers in a series of steps that use energy intensive equipment. Diffusion furnaces, ion implanters, and plasma etching-machines all need considerable amounts of power, O’Donnell said, adding that some require very high temperatures. The diffusion furnaces, for example, run at 1,200 to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit and the wafers sit in them for hours at a time to change the surface characteristics of the silicon.” “The global chip industry has a colossal problem with carbon emissions”, Sam Shead, CNBC, Nov. 3 2021

THE CAPE CHARLES MIRROR MARCH 7, 2023 AT 7:26 PM

Paul R Plante, NYSPE says:

Before we go back to Joe Biden’s ideology-based “STATE SCIENCE” with respect to the climate, which “STATE SCIENCE,” being ideologically-based, is a closed institution that does not condone or allow dissent, which closed institution tells us how we have to think, and then calls that “science,” or “following the science,” I’d like to put this following statement into the record here, as it happens to reflect where I am on this subject of having “science” dictated to me by Joe Biden, who has trouble with the word scientist (sci·en·tist) because it has three syllables, while Joe still stumbles with sounding out “see Dick run,” and his ideologically-sound cadre of “state scientists,” (recall Fauci, everyone), to wit:

“The strength of American science requires a research environment conducive to creativity, an environment in which the free exchange of ideas is a vital component.”

Those are words which I heartily agree with, and those words come to us from President Reagan’s National Security Decision Directive 189 (NSDD-189) on September 21, 1985, which words the National Science Board (NSB) strongly reaffirmed in an October 24, 2018 Statement of the National Science Board on Security and Science, wherein was also stated as follows, to wit:

Fundamental research is built on open exchanges of ideas and information.

These scientific values mirror American ideals of freedom, a combination that has helped our country lead the world in technology, driven our economy and that, in turn, protects our freedom.

end quotes

Open exchanges of ideas and information?

Under Joe Biden?

Not going to happen, people.

And those words about an open exchange of ideas and information come to us from Donald Trump, so no wonder they sound so whacky and radical.

WE ARE IN A CLIMATE (substitute COVID, same thing) CRISIS, IT’S A REAL LIFE OR DEATH EMERGENCY, AND WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE, SO WE DON’T HAVE TIME FOR AN OPEN EXCHANGE OF IDEAS AND INFORMATION BECAUSE GOVERNMENT SCIENTISTS ALREADY KNOW EVERYTHING THAT NEEDS TO BE KNOWN AND THEY DON’T HAVE ANY TIME TO SPARE ON DISSENTERS OR DENIERS WHO DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ANYWAY!

That above is policy under Joe Biden, which not surprisingly at all, is a complete and total reversal of policy under Trump, who stated in PILLAR I of the National Security Strategy of the United States of America, December 2017
https://trumpwhitehouse.archives.gov/wp ... 7-0905.pdf as follows, to wit:

Protect the American People, the Homeland, and the American Way of Life

“We will defend our country, protect our communities, and put the safety of the American people first.”

This National Security Strategy begins with the determination to protect the American people, the American way of life, and American interests.

Americans have long recognized the benefits of an interconnected world, where information and commerce flow freely.

end quotes

Under Joe Biden, however, that is all no longer true, starting with the fact Trump said it, which makes it all a “GREAT BIG LIE” according to Joe Biden, and with all of Joe’s never-ending CRISES and EMERGENCIES and CLIMATE DISASTERS, information can no longer flow freely because under Joe Biden, our national security has become so weak, that a mere zephyr breeze could topple the edifice like a house of cards built on shifting sand, and Joe doesn’t want his many enemies all over the world to know that, so government censorship and suppression of the free flow of ideas and information is now necessary for national security reasons.

Trump’s National Security Strategy of the United States of America, December 2017, then stated further, as follows, to wit:

“A democracy is only as resilient as its people.”

“An informed and engaged citizenry is the fundamental requirement for a free and resilient nation.”

“For generations, our society has protected free press, free speech, and free thought.”

end quotes

And on 20 January 2021, with the inauguration of Democrat progressive radical Josph Robinette Biden, Junior, the protection of free thought in our society came to an end, never to be again so long as Joe Biden and the Democrats hold power in this country.

Now, science is dictated to us by presidential decree!

And there again I will pause.

THE CAPE CHARLES MIRROR MARCH 8, 2023 AT 9:25 PM

Paul R Plante, NYSPE says:

And here for a moment, because it is important to our understanding of a key difference between a scientist, one who works with theories of reality and has no licensure requirements nor explicit duties to the public, versus an engineer, who works with the reality those theories purport to be about and is licensed by the state to protect or safeguard life, health and property, I would like to go back to the phrase I used above, “…duty to safeguard (protect from harm or damage) life,” to which A Friend replied “Thanks for the definition Paul! But, for you to assume most people are ignorant when it comes to this word, makes you quite the arrogant man!”

Whether or not “most people” are ignorant when it comes to the word “safeguard” is totally immaterial to this discussion, because neither of us knows what “most people” know or do not know, and more to the point, why would people in the Commonwealth of Virginia be familiar with that phrase, because the licensing law in the Commonwealth DOES NOT use or employ the term “safeguard” to define what an engineer is or does, to wit:

§ 54.1-400. Definitions.

“Professional engineer” means a person who is qualified to practice engineering by reason of his special knowledge and use of mathematical, physical and engineering sciences and the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design acquired by engineering education and experience, and whose competence has been attested by the Board through licensure as a professional engineer.

The “practice of engineering” means any service wherein the principles and methods of engineering are applied to, but are not necessarily limited to, the following areas: consultation, investigation, evaluation, planning and design of public or private utilities, structures, machines, equipment, processes, transportation systems and work systems, including responsible administration of construction contracts.

The term “practice of engineering” shall not include the service or maintenance of existing electrical or mechanical systems.

end quotes

I have searched through the Code of Virginia looking for the word or term “safeguard,” and it does not exist, so why on earth would someone from the Commonwealth of Virginia know what I was talking about when I was talking about a DUTY placed on me by the laws of the state of New York, not the Commonwealth of Virginia, to wit:

New York State Education Law Section 7201

§ 7201. Definition of practice of engineering. The practice of the profession of engineering is defined as performing professional service such as consultation, investigation, evaluation, planning, design or supervision of construction or operation in connection with any utilities, structures, buildings, machines, equipment, processes, works, or projects wherein the safeguarding of life, health and property is concerned, when such service or work requires the application of engineering principles and data.

So, a question for A Friend: Does a licensed engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia have the same duty to the public as does a licensed engineer in New York state?

And if the laws of the state or commonwealth do not explicitly impose such a duty on the licensed engineer, as is the case in the Commonwealth, why would the licensed engineer on his or her own pick up such a duty as theirs?

What would be their basis for doing so?

Personally, I think the law as written in Virginia is a bit on the squishy side with regard to what, if any, duty the licensed engineer owes the public here in Virginia, because if the law that applies to an engineer does not mandate “safeguarding” life, health and property, and the money is on the side of not doing so, or more likely, the political pressure, as is the case here, is not on doing so, if doing so would require the practitioner to stand up to Joe Biden, the most powerful and dictatorial president this nation has ever had, why on earth would they?

THE CAPE CHARLES MIRROR MARCH 10, 2023 AT 6:26 PM

Paul R Plante, NYSPE says:

Now, in addition to us readers of the Cape Charles Mirror being a rational, logical, sensible group of people, we are a discerning (showing insight and understanding) group, as well, so with that said, and with the “proposition” (a statement or assertion that expresses a judgment or opinion, as in “the proposition that American DICTATOR Joe Biden is a CLIMATE DENIER”) before us that not only is Joe Biden a DENIER OF REALITY itself, but he is also a BLATANT HYPOCRITICAL CLIMATE DENIER, as well, let us go back and examine in greater detail that first definition, “a person who rejects the proposition that climate change caused by human activity is occurring,” with an emphasis on the phrase “human activity,” which is NOT at all the same as saying “climate change caused by CO2.”

So now we need to ask ourselves this important question in the light of the MASSIVE SCALE of ENVIRONMENTAL DISRUPTION and OUTRIGHT DEVASATATION Joe Biden has perhaps irreversibly now set in motion with his GREEN NEW DEAL disguised as an infrastructure bill, a CHIP FAB bill and an inflation reduction bill, to wit:

WHAT EXACTLY ARE THE HUMAN ACTIVITIES THAT CAUSE CLIMATE CHANGE?

So we go to the dictionary and find that the term “human activities” can be described as follows:

What are examples of human activities?

Human activities are the various actions for recreation, living, or necessity done by people.

For instance it includes leisure, entertainment, manufacturing, recreation, war, and exercise.

end quotes

And it also includes EVERY SINGLE THING that Joe Biden has set in motion with his GREEN NEW DEAL which promises to recreate the land mass of the United States into a BIDEN-ESQUE RE-CREATION of Giedi Prime under Baron Harkonnen – an industrial wasteland with a low photosynthetic potential and the planet’s bio-resources depleted and its environment fouled with industrial pollution.

That, people, and make no mistake about it, is the real future Joe Biden’s GREEN NEW DEAL promises us, and believe me, it WILL NOT BE GREEN, except for green industrial slime on our water bodies and waterways, and maybe industrial green concrete.

So let’s ask the question about human activities, which include everything Joe Biden has set in motion, a different way, to wit:

What are human activities on the environment?

Humans impact the physical environment in many ways: overpopulation, pollution, burning fossil fuels, and deforestation.

Changes like these have triggered climate change, soil erosion, poor air quality, and undrinkable water.

end quotes

With his BUY AMERICAN ONLY policy, Joe Biden is going to contribute to massive deforestation of the land mass of the United States of America, and for Joe to procure all the other materials Joe needs for his GRANDIOSE AND UNPROVEN SCHEMES, Joe has to burn massive quantities of fossil fuels to operate ALL the mining equipment required, and ALL the processing equipment required, because mining equipment does not operate with either batteries or long lead cords – it burns diesel.

So let’s pause here, since we are not a hasty folk, either, to let that all sink in and be absorbed before we go back to this subject of Joe Biden being the CLIMATE DENIER-IN-CHIEF!

Paul R Plante, NYSPE says:

And for proof that CLIMATE DENIER-IN-CHIEF and REALITY DENIER Joseph Robinette Biden, Junior is chock full of beans and is lying to us through his teeth, a Joe Biden specialty, when he tells us he is reducing inflation with his Inflation Reduction Act, which is a driver of inflation, not a reducer of inflation, we have as follows from Reuters on that subject, to wit:

“New York Fed model finds inflation pressures more persistent than thought”

By Michael S. Derby

March 9, 2023

March 9 (Reuters) – In another setback for the Federal Reserve’s inflation fight, data showing inflationary pressures cooling in recent months were in fact a mirage, and show underlying price pressures actually have been accelerating.

end quotes

MIRAGE: something that appears real or possible but is not in fact so.

Continuing on with the REALITY Joe Biden is a DENIER of, we have:

The new findings out Thursday from the New York Fed add a fresh complication to the monetary policy outlook and could help reinforce the view that aggressive Fed rate hikes have yet to make the needed dent in price pressures.

That, in turn, could drive the central bank to go even further with rate increases over time.

The New York Fed report focuses on an in-house model called the Multivariate Core Trend, which is designed to provide a more complete reading on the factors and trends coming out of the personal consumption expenditures price index, which is the Fed’s preferred way of measuring inflation.

In its blog post, bank economists said recent upward revisions to inflation data coupled with higher-than-expected levels of inflation had changed the picture on what had appeared to be a cooling in price pressures.

The January MCT reading stood at 4.9%, up from December’s upwardly revised 4.8%, which had initially been reported at 3.7% a month ago.

That compares with a PCE price index year-over-year reading of 5.4% in January, and a rise, stripped of food and energy costs, of 4.7%.

The Fed’s inflation target is 2%.

The January MCT reading “provides a quite different narrative for the recent dynamics of inflation persistence relative to what we had prior to the new release,” New York Fed economists wrote.

The pickup in inflation in the model has been driven by core goods and core services stripped of housing components.

The stickiness of nonhousing services inflation, in particular, has been a concern for central bank policymakers, including Fed Chair Jerome Powell, who has repeatedly noted the lack of progress made in bringing it down.

The New York Fed research shows it’s even more problematic than previously estimated.

“Relative to their pre-pandemic averages, core goods trend is about 0.9 percentage point higher and core services ex-housing is 1.1 percentage point higher.”

In his appearance, Powell acknowledged that inflation pressures had been proving more persistent than he expected in an economy whose overall performance was also stronger than policy makers had thought.

Powell said this landscape means the Fed stands a good chance of having to raise rates higher than it recently expected and keep them there for longer.

The Fed chief’s testimony also pointed to the rising prospect that after slowing the pace of its rate rise campaign last month to a quarter-percentage-point increase, it may have to go back to larger moves and boost the federal funds rate target by half a percentage point at the March 21-22 Federal Open Market Committee meeting.

In his testimony, Powell acknowledged the recent softening in inflation had been washed away by revisions and the idea that price pressures had peaked has taken a hit.

He noted before the Senate Tuesday that late last year there had been a “promising” shift in inflation toward lower levels that has been washed away in revisions.

As it now stands for inflation, there’s been some softening but not in the place where it most needs to cool off after goods inflation has shifted lower.

“There’s not a lot of improvement yet to be seen in the largest sector, which is not housing services.”

THE CAPE CHARLES MIRROR MARCH 13, 2023 AT 9:37 AM

Paul Plante, NYSPE says:

So, having determined that a CLIMATE DENIER is a person who rejects the proposition that climate change caused by human activity is occurring; or a person who does not accept that climate change is happening, or does not accept that it is caused by human activity such as burning fossil fuels; or one who denies that changes in the Earth’s climate or weather patterns are caused by human activity, we now have another new term confronting us, and that is NET ZERO.

And what pray tell, is NET ZERO?

According to the dictionary, it is as follows: a target of completely negating the amount of greenhouse gases produced by human activity, to be achieved by reducing emissions and implementing methods of absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, as in “global net emissions of carbon dioxide will need to fall to net zero by 2050.”

And why should we be concerned about this term?

Well, for one, it is an impossible goal to achieve, because to completely negate the amount of greenhouse gases produced by human activity, which includes exhaling, it takes even more energy intensive human activities to reduce emissions and implement methods of absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and those more energy intensive human activities to remove CO2 from the air will themselves contribute to and cause further climate change.

And what brings this up now?

Let’s go to the Reuters article “Yellen warns climate change could trigger asset value losses, harming US economy” by Andrea Shalal on March 7, 2023, to see, to wit:

WASHINGTON, March 7 (Reuters) – Climate change is already having a major economic and financial impact on the United States and may trigger asset value losses in coming years that could cascade through the U.S. financial system, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen will warn on Tuesday.

To which I have to reply, STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES, “TOODLES!”

Build a house of cards on a base of shifting sand and don’t be surprised when a slight zephyr breeze brings the whole rotten edifice crashing down.

It’s not so-called climate change that is having a major economic and financial impact on the United States, because the climate has never been static and has always been changing – it is STUPID HUMAN DECISIONS made by real STUPID, SHORT-SIGHTED and GREEDY people in positions of authority that are having a major economic and financial impact on the United States.

Take Houston, Texas with its flooding problems, for example.

There is a TEXT-BOOK CASE of a municipality due to STUPIDITY and SHORT-SIGHTEDNESS and GREED sealing its fate by the way it has been laid out, so there are low areas that cannot drain.

“Oh, but Paul,” “TOODLES” Yellen would say, “you silly man, don’t you know that because of climate change, it now rains more than it did when they designed Houston?”

And no, I do NOT know that, at all, nor does “TOODLES.”

Going back to Reuters, we have more “TOODLES” Yellen on NET-ZERO, as follows:

Yellen will tell a new advisory board of academics, private sector experts and non-profits there has been a five-fold increase in the annual number of billion-dollar disasters over the past five years, compared to the 1980s, even after taking into account inflation.

“As climate change intensifies, natural disasters and warming temperatures can lead to declines in asset values that could cascade through the financial system.”

“And a delayed and disorderly transition to a net-zero economy can lead to shocks to the financial system as well,” she said in remarks prepared for delivery at the advisory board’s first meeting.

She said severe storms and wildfires in states like California, Florida, and Louisiana, tornadoes across the South and intensifying storms on the West Coast show how climate change is accelerating.

The U.S. government in January reported that 2022 tied 2017 and 2011 for the third-highest number of billion-dollar disasters, with a total price tag of at least $165 billion.

There were 18 weather and climate disasters each costing at least $1 billion in the year, including two tornado outbreaks in the south and southeast in March and April, and massive wildfires across the west.

Yellen said the new Climate-related Financial Risk Advisory Committee, set up last October by the Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC), would boost U.S. efforts to mitigate the risks that climate change poses to financial stability.

Yellen said climate-related events had already prompted insurers to raise rates or stop providing insurance in high-risk areas, which could have devastating consequences for homeowners and their property values.

That in turn could spill over to other parts of the financial system, she said.

That was on March 7, 2023, and just three (3) days later on March 10, 2023, we were reading in the CNBC article “Silicon Valley Bank is shut down by regulators in biggest bank failure since global financial crisis” by Jesse Pound about the collapse of SVB, a key player in the tech and venture capital community, which leaves companies and wealthy individuals largely unsure of what will happen to their money, as a result not of climate change, but because of Joe Biden’s whacked-out economic policies that have raised the cost of money as the federal reserve tries to tackle the inflation the Biden Administration has created, and “TOODLES” was convening a meeting of top officials at the Fed, the FDIC and the Comptroller of the Currency specifically to discuss the situation at SVB.

Sounds like “TOODLES” has a real serious problem there that she foolishly thinks NET-ZERO will solve, when NET-ZERO is an unachievable goal due to the energy-intensive nature of the means to get there, which we will begin to explore in here courtesy of the Cape Charles Mirror.

And my goodness, speaking of the BIDEN ADMINISTRATION being a chief emitter of GLOBAL GREENHOUSE GASES, where oh where is JET-SETTING Gina Raimondo?

According to Reuters on March 9, 2023, JET-SETTING GINA was on a four-day trip to India, accompanied by the chief executive officers of 10 U.S. companies and was scheduled to meet India’s trade minister on Friday to map the semiconductor supply chain together and identify opportunities for joint ventures and technology partnerships, which are human activities that will cause even more climate change, as does Gina JET-SETTING around the globe.

Paul Plante, NYSPE says:

“And a delayed and disorderly transition to a net-zero economy can lead to shocks to the financial system as well,

– Biden Treasury Secretary Janet “TOODLES” Yellen, March 7, 2023

And actually, people, if we stop to think about it for just a moment, it is Joe Biden’s disorderly, scatter-brained, ill-thought-out, and ill-planned transition attempt to something Joe cannot achieve, the so-called “net-zero economy, that is responsible for shocks to the financial system that have just brought down not one but two banks over the weekend and have started a new round of GOVERNMENT BANK BAILOUTS, as we see from the Business Insider article “Signature Bank shut down by regulators” by Katherine Tangalakis-Lippert on 12 March 2023, to wit:

In an attempt to prevent a spreading financial crisis, regulators shut down the crypto-friendly Signature Bank, New York, on Sunday, promising to make its depositors whole.

Signature Bank’s closure comes on the heels of the shuttering of Silicon Valley Bank on Friday.

Customers of both tech-friendly institutions will be bailed out by the US Treasury, Federal Reserve, and Financial Deposit Insurance Corporation, with their funds available beginning Monday.

As to goofy Joe Biden’s GREEN NEW DEAL being the real cause of the shocks to the financial system “TOODLES” Yellen was prattling about just days ago, we have for example the CNBC article “Silicon Valley Bank is shut down by regulators in biggest bank failure since global financial crisis” by Jesse Pound on March 10, 2023, to wit:

Financial regulators have closed Silicon Valley Bank and taken control of its deposits, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. announced Friday, in what is the largest U.S. bank failure since the global financial crisis more than a decade ago.

The last U.S. bank failure of this size was Washington Mutual in 2008, which had $307 billion in assets.

SVB was a major bank for venture-backed companies, which were already under pressure due to higher interest rates and a slowdown for initial public offerings that made it more difficult to raise additional cash.

end quotes

“Under pressure due to HIGHER INTEREST RATES?”

And why, pray tell, are interest rates higher?

Oh, yeah, right, the federal reserve is raising interest rates in order to fight the INFLATION being caused by Joe Biden handing out billions and billions of dollars for his INSANE GREEN DREAM of reaching this NIRVANA called the “net-zero economy,” an INSANE GREEN DREAM that requires the expenditure of TRILLIONS of dollars in the futile effort to achieve it, because it is an INSANE DREAM, which takes us to the Reuters article “Analysis: Californian tech bank SVB sows global fear about rising cost of money” by Naomi Rovnick and Mehnaz Yasmin on March 10, 2023, to wit:

LONDON, March 10 (Reuters) – For months, investors had shrugged off the threat of rising interest rates.

That changed this week.

U.S. tech bank SVB Financial Group’s scramble for fresh capital, after losing $1.8 billion selling a package of bonds to meet depositor demands for cash, sparked a global rout in bank stocks – and a rethink.

After more than a decade of economic life support by way of easy policy and the flooding of markets with trillions in cash that even spawned virtual crypto money, central banks have slammed into reverse.

Bets on further hikes have ratcheted up in recent days as inflation remains stubbornly high, with Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell on Wednesday reaffirming his message of higher and potentially faster rate hikes.

end quotes

Inflation remains stubbornly high?

HUH?

With Joe Biden’s INFLATION REDUCTION ACT in place, how can that be?

SIMPLE – Joe Biden’s INFLATION REDUCTION ACT, which is one-third of Joe’s MASSIVE GREEN NEW DEAL economic package, is the CAUSE of the INFLATION the fed is trying to fight, which fight just brought down two banks and caused a major rout on the stock market.

And people, get prepared, for that is just the start.
