And the concept of "state's rights," regardless of the spin that anyone wants to put to it, means exactly what you are saying it means, given that before there was a United States of America, a term of mockery, that, there were independent states, each with its own rights ...

And the Black folks, although they like to have the sole claim to victimhood, were hardly the only people who had no rights pursuant to the doctrine of "state's rights," which means anything the man with the gun in his hand wants it to mean ...

Here, it means the state has a right to be corrupt and nobody can do a thing about it, because it is the right of the state to be corrupt and a thief and a thug ...

Out there, it apparently means something different ...

Well, for 100 years, since the election of 1876 when Hayes was awarded the presidency on the condition that he remove federal troops from the South thus ending reconstruction and ushering in Jim Crow, black people who had actually elected black representatives suddenly found their voting rights subjected to poll taxes and literacy tests.

That ended in 1965 with the voting rights act, perhaps (with the civil rights act) the best work of LBJ who would have gone down as a GREAT president were it not for this little war he was determined to fight in Vietnam.

But, SCOTUS has managed to take the federal boot off the necks of the southern states, claiming that they had reformed and that the boot was no longer needed.

HAH!

It didn't take them long to start reverting to their old ways. The fact that in spite of all that, GA elected 2 Dem senators in 2020, in spite of tRUMP's plea to "find 14,000 more votes for me"

Now Texas (with a lot of electoral votes on the line) is redistricting (gerrymandering) so as to create more Repub seats. If the same voters in 2020 cast the same votes in 2022, after Repub gerrymandering, the House goes republican, Kevin McCarthy is Speaker, and Nancy Pelosi is minority.

So America is NOT been made Great Again. It has been made less democratic and less equal.

It was NEVER democratic or equal in the first place and hasn't been so ever since, because people are not and never will be "equal," or there would be no successful grifters, con artists, scammers or politicians ...

And "Make America Great Again" is as STUPID a slogan as is "Build Back Better" ...

We live in a third-world nation ruled by stupid slogans, as if this were the old Soviet Union ...

John Adams wrote, ‘‘Remember, democracy never lasts long."

"It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself."

"There was never a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.’’

I now realize the wisdom of his words.

We're blessed to be around when our democracy is committing suicide where we can watch it as it happens, instead of having to merely read about it is a dull history book, and talk about it, like we're calling the play action in a golf tournament ...

When only 20% of the people believe in the government, then there is something very seriously wrong with that government ...

More and more, and I find myself doing it, as well, whenever Joe Biden comes on the radio news to tell us something, as if he were our "leader," or Nancy Pelosi comes on the radio news, the expletives start flowing forth in a torrent ...

Right now, the most complimentary thing I am hearing said about Joe Biden is that he is a senile old fool ...

Oh, how the American people love our goofy old Joe!

Best president any nation on earth in its entire history has ever had, and we are so lucky to have him as our president instead of somebody else ...

Indeed, democracies have nor had a great track record over the millennia. Greece's lasted about 200 years; Rome did a little better at 600 years; we are not on track to make 300 as it now stands.

Just through Gerrymandering and voter suppression, chances are America will soon become a one-party state. And I think you know which party will be in charge.
