For example, Black “activist” Bree Newsome in her TWEET above put her personal values on the table for all to see, to wit:

“We do not need police to address these situations by showing up to the scene & using a weapon against one of the teenagers.”

Reading that from my point of view, which is from the other side of a huge gulf between us called the “cultural divide,” I would say that it is she who needs help, and I mean that sincerely.

So we here in the United States of America clearly do not share a common set of values.

As to these politicians who are inciting violence against police officers while milking the race and class hustle for all it is worth, let us go back to the Albany, New York Times Union article entitled “‘Community response’ masses at Albany police’s South Station - New demonstration comes after night of unrest, arrests after encampment was forcibly cleared” by Steve Hughes and Eduardo Medina on April 23, 2021, where we had as follows on that subject, to wit:

City Auditor Dorcey Applyrs and one group of Common Council members released a statement calling the police department’s decision to remove the protesters, “disheartening and overly aggressive.”

County Legislator Sam Fein, who represents the area, said he also believed police had used too much force in clearing the camp.

He said the protesters wanted to see a more equitable criminal justice system.

“They want police to treat everyone equally,” he said.

What the **** is a more equitable criminal justice system, where the word “equitable” is defined as “fair and impartial?

Given that those morons are talking about New York State, the question raised and unanswered is what is unequitable about the New York State Criminal Procedure Law, which not only is color-blind, but is intended to protect the poor and weak from arbitrary police power?

And what is unequitable about Title 19.2 – Criminal Procedure of the Virginia Code?

As to this statement by these Albany, New York politicians that the police should have tried to de-escalate tensions and rely on community voices to help address the protesters concerns, there would not have been tensions to de-escalate in the first place if the politicians had not of created them by their own craven cowardice and stupidity, which brings us to the source of the tensions in the first place, which is Democratic Socialist mayor of the criminal sanctuary city of Albany, New York Kathy Sheehan being quoted in an Albany, New York Times Union story entitled “As statues tumble, relatives of Gen. Philip Schuyler ask for pause” by Brendan J. Lyons on July 5, 2020, as follows:

Although (Kathy) Sheehan has been mayor of the city (Albany) since 2014, the recent protests in Albany and across the country in the wake of the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer prompted her call for the statue’s removal at a time she believes everyone should embrace the Black Lives Matter movement.

Earlier this month, Sheehan authorized city workers to paint a giant “Black Lives Matter” mural on Lark Street in the Center Square neighborhood.

While a few leaders of Black Lives Movement groups have promoted violence, or have a history of violence themselves, the mayor said it is time for the nation to embrace that cause.

“And what we need to do is be more honest about that and surface them.”

Clinton added, “I don’t have the answers, I’m not a behavioral psychologist or anything, but I think that needs to be done in every community kind of setting we can find that is open to doing it.”

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York has criticized Vice President Kamala Harris' rejection of Guatemalan migrants, saying the US was in part responsible for destabilizing the country in the first place.

At a press conference in Guatemala City on Monday, Harris told Guatemalans thinking of trying to enter the US to stay home, saying: "Do not come."


Later Monday, Ocasio-Cortez said of Harris' speech: "This is disappointing to see."

"First, seeking asylum at any US border is a 100% legal method of arrival," she said.

"Second, the US spent decades contributing to regime change and destabilization in Latin America."

"We can't help set someone's house on fire and then blame them for fleeing."

The US recorded more than 178,000 migrants - many of which were Guatemalan - trying to enter the US-Mexico border in April, the US Customs and Border Patrol said.

It was the highest one-month total in 20 years, CNN reported.

On March 24, Biden said that he was putting Harris in charge of all affairs concerning the southern US border.

At her Monday speech, Harris said: "I want to emphasize that the goal of our work is to help Guatemalans find hope at home."

"At the same time, I want to be clear to folks in this region who are thinking about making that dangerous trek to the United States-Mexico border: Do not come."


"Do not come."

"We, as one of our priorities, will discourage illegal migration."

"And I believe if you come to our border, you will be turned back," she added.

Guatemala was Harris' first foreign trip as vice president.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez referred to outrage over violent crime spikes across the country as “hysteria.”

"We are seeing these headlines about percentage increases," the New York Democrat told her colleague, Rep. Jamaal Bowman, during a Zoom meeting.


"Now, I want to say that any amount of harm is unacceptable and too much, but I also want to make sure that this hysteria, you know, that this doesn’t drive a hysteria and that we look at these numbers in context so that we can make responsible decisions about what to allocate in that context."

Violent crime is on the rise in the nation’s largest cities, including New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles, which Republicans and some local officials have argued is a result of liberal efforts to defund police departments and lower penalties and bail for non-violent crimes.

Earlier this month, Ocasio-Cortez urged authorities to stop building prisons and instead divert attention to public health issues, arguing that it is “not acceptable” to use jails as “garbage bins.”

"If we want to reduce violent crime, if we want to reduce the number of people in our jails, the answer is to stop building more of them," Ocasio-Cortez stated.

"The answer is to make sure that we actually build more hospitals, we pay organizers, we get people mental healthcare, and overall healthcare, employment, etc."

"It’s to support communities, not throw them away."

Ocasio-Cortez’s comment drew harsh criticism on social media, including from journalist Glenn Greenwald, who suggested she was “mocking” ordinary people who are concerned about violence in their cities while demanding protection for herself at the same time.

“AOC is mocking ordinary people as ‘hysterical’ who are afraid of violent crime in their neighborhood: people who, unlike her, don't have reams of private security,” Greenwald tweeted.

“Yet she just acted to ensure $2 billion more in spending on the police that protects her.”

New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, along with fellow "squad" members Jamaal Bowman D-NY and Cori Bush D-MO, joined climate activists outside the White House on Monday to demand that President Joe Biden prioritize climate change prevention in his infrastructure plan.

Several signs photographed in the crowd read, "Biden you coward fight for us."


Ocasio-Cortez, a champion of the Green New Deal, attended the protest of several hundred organized by the Sunrise Movement, a progressive climate change activist organization that says they want Biden to establish a "fully funded Civilian Climate Corps" and further deliver on his campaign pledge to address global warming.

Speaking to the crowd amid a month of nationwide heatwaves, Ocasio-Cortez said "They want you to think, 'Oh, this is a new idea, this is too ambitious, this is too crazy.'"

"How about this?"

"The last time we introduced the Civilian Climate Corps in this country, we hired and mobilized a quarter-million people in three months."

"We're going to get that into this infrastructure bill," added the New York congresswoman.

After lengthy negotiations, Biden announced an infrastructure deal last week that contained only trimmed down funding for climate change protections, and no funding for a Civilian Climate Corps.

Progressive members of his party are showing their opinion that Biden is not doing enough to reflect their views on climate change.

Bowman said Democrats should bypass GOP and pass their own reconciliation measure without an attempt at bipartisanship.

"F--k that."

"We've got to go big, and take it to another level," he added.

"This is our moment."

"This is the moment."


The Sunrise Movement's Twitter account was active on Monday, tweeting, "We made it clear the first time @POTUS, you're going to hear our demands, whether we're inside or outside of the White House."

"You haven't responded."

"Now we're back to make sure you understand us clearly: It's #NoClimateNoDeal and No Compromises, No Excuses."

In the evening, after protestors formed a blockade in front of the White House and arrests had been made, the account tweeted: "Today we showed up to @JoeBiden's doorstep with 500+ people and blockaded every entrance to the white house, demanding that he include a fully funded #CivilianClimateCorps in his infrastructure bill."

"Secret Service then arrested dozens of us."

Other signs in the crowd read: "Meet with us not corrupt GOP," "Pass a bold Civilian Climat Corps," "For the people we love," "For the air we breathe," "For the places we call home" and "No climate no deal."

Newsweek reached out to Ocasio-Cortez and the Sunrise Movement for comment.

What “freedoms?”

We do not celebrate “freedoms” on Independence Day, period!

Independence Day — known colloquially as the Fourth of July — marks the date in 1776 when the Second Continental Congress finally approved the US Declaration of Independence, marking the freedom of the thirteen American colonies from British colonial rule.

And that is it, period!

And since then, July 4, 1776 has been considered America’s “birthday,” making her 245 years old this year.

That’s what we “celebrate,” and that is all we “celebrate,” the birth date of a new nation.

And what about the Declaration of Independence?

It starts out thusly:

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

That is what the Declaration of Independence was intended to do, and that is what it did; it did not create freedoms and we do not celebrate “freedoms” on the 4th of July - rather we celebrate freedom from the tyranny of a mad English King, to wit:

A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

Which again raises the question of how many different meanings can there possibly be to what the Fourth of July actually stands for, which is nothing more than the birthdate of this nation, as imperfect as it may have been at that time, keeping in mind that the day before the Declaration of Independence, the 13 colonies were exactly that – colonies of Great Britain ruled by British Royal Governors appointed by the King in England.

Getting back to Newsweek:

“When they say that the 4th of July is about American freedom, remember this: the freedom they’re referring to is for white people.”

The 4th of July is about America’s bid to get free of the yoke of an TYRANT ENGLISH KING!

And freedom for white people?

What freedom?

What freedom do white people have as a result of the 4th of July that BLACK people do not also have, given we had a BLACK president, we now have a BLACK vice president and these ignorant DEMOCRAT members selling this HORSE**** are themselves BLACK?

As to who this PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRAT moron is, Cori Anika Bush (born July 21, 1976) is an American politician, registered nurse, pastor, and activist serving as the U.S. Representative for Missouri’s 1st congressional district, which district includes all of the city of St. Louis and most of northern St. Louis County.

Not at all surprisingly, soon after being sworn in, Bush joined “The Squad”, a group of progressive Democratic lawmakers including the wingnut AOC, the up-jumped terrorist Ilhan Omar, and the foul-mouthed Rashida Tlaib.

Showing her fascist side to the candid world, on January 6, 2021, hours after pro-Trump rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol, Bush introduced a resolution to remove every Republican who supported attempts to overturn the 2020 United States presidential election from the House of Representatives.

In announcing her support for the second impeachment of Donald Trump, Bush called the attack on the Capitol a “white supremacist insurrection” incited by the “white supremacist-in-chief.”

All of which serves to illustrate the fact that this woman has some very serious mental issues that one would think would preclude her from serving as a congressperson, but since an idiot or moron or completely insane person has the same rights and freedoms as anyone else, regardless of skin color, to run for congress, especially as a PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRAT, these are the kinds of morons we have ended up with in the “People’s House” under Nancy Pelosi, which takes us back to Newsweek as follows:

California Rep. Maxine Waters, the House Financial Services Committee chair, echoed Douglass’ sentiment on Sunday, tweeting, “July 4th… & so, the Declaration of Independence says all men are created equal.”

“What men?”

“Only white men?”

“Isn’t it something that they wrote this in 1776 when African Americans were enslaved?”

“They weren’t thinking about us then, but we’re thinking about us now!”

Maxine Moore Waters (née Carr; August 15, 1938) is an American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for California’s 43rd congressional district since 1991.

The district, numbered as the 29th district from 1991 to 1993 and as the 35th district from 1993 to 2013, includes much of southern Los Angeles, as well as portions of Gardena, Inglewood and Torrance.

And yes, people – the Declaration of Independence does indeed say all men are created equal, to wit:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

And yes, the people who wrote those words were white.

Did the Black folks in Africa who were the enslavers of other Black people in Africa for a sale as slaves to the British also believe that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness?

And that answer is not hardly!

That was a uniquely American sentiment not shared by the Black folks in Africa.

Consider the Akan people of Africa who waged war on neighboring states in their geographic area to capture people and sell them as slaves to Europeans (Portuguese) who subsequently sold the enslaved people along with guns to the Akan in exchange for Akan gold.

Akan gold was also used to purchase slaves from further up north via the Trans-Saharan route.

The Akan purchased slaves to help clear the dense forests within Ashanti.

About a third of the population of many Akan states were indentured servants (i.e. Non-Akan peoples).

The Akan went from buyers of slaves to selling slaves as the dynamics in the Gold Coast and the New World changed.

Thus, the Akan people played a role in supplying Europeans with indentured servants, who were later enslaved for the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

In 2006 Ghana apologized to the descendants of slaves for the role the Ashantis had played in the slave trade.

Or how about the academic paper titled “Slavery and Post-Slavery in Madagascar: An Overview” by Denis Regnier and Dominique Somda, where we have as follows concerning “equality” in Africa, to wit:

Slaves have been traded in the maritime networks of the western Indian Ocean for at least 2000 years.

In Madagascar, the existence of slavery may date back to the first Southeast Asian settlements, which probably occurred between the 4th and 6th century.

Scholars seeking to reconstruct the early occupation of the island find it plausible that slaves were among the South-East Asian settlers, since ship crews from Indonesia were probably made of people with different social statuses and may have included slaves who were left behind in the semi-permanent settlements of this remote colony.

If not earlier, slaves probably made an important part of the population of Madagascar as early as in the 10th century.

By that date, two main commercial systems existed in the western Indian Ocean.

One was in the hands of Muslim merchants from the Persian Gulf, southern Arabia and the Swahili coast who traded along the shores of East Africa and in the northern Indian Ocean, and the other was in the hands of the Southeast Asians who sailed to the Comoros and Madagascar.

It is likely that slaves circulated in both systems, since during this period Muslim merchants sent East African slaves to southern Arabia and the Gulf, while the South-East Asians probably used slave labor in the iron industry of their settlements.

From Eastern Europe to North Africa

The sale of African slaves can be traced back to antiquity.

It became popular in the seventh century when Islam was gaining strength in North Africa.

This was seven centuries before Europeans explored the continent and ten centuries before West Africans were sold across the Atlantic to America.

Maxine would do well to inform herself that there would not have been slaves in America but for the Black folks like her in Africa making them slaves in the first place, and besides, the Fourth of July has absolutely nothing to do with slaves, period, except it is thanks to those words in the Declaration of Independence that all men are created equal that resulted in the end of slavery in this country, while in the homeland of the Black folks in Africa, slavery persisted well into the 1900’s, so Maxine, who are the Black folks equal to?

Going back to Newsweek, we have another burst of pure ignorance concerning Independence Day, to wit:

He wrote that Juneteenth casts a “long shallow over Independence Day, making it look like a hypocrite and a damn fool.”

“Independence for who?” Touré asked.

“It wasn’t independence for Black people, for our ancestors, so why would we celebrate the Fourth of July?”

He also cited the Pulitzer Prize-winning essay for the “1619 project” by Nikole Hannah-Jones, which noted that colonies sought to emancipate from Britain partly to protect the institution of slavery.

“America wanted to protect its cash cow and, even more, it was wealth derived from slavery that allowed the colonies to afford to pay for the War of Independence,” Touré wrote.

“The founding of this country is intertwined with slavery.”

And how does one rationally deal with such stupidity and ignorance as that?

I would suggest some real American history as found in the political essay “Brutus III” by Brutus on November 15, 1787 on the subject of the 3/5’s compromise:

“In a free state.” says the celebrated Montesquieu, “every man who is supposed to be a free agent, ought to be concerned in his own government.”

“Therefore the legislature should reside in the whole body of the people, or their representatives.”

But it has never been alledged that those who are not free agents, can, upon any rational principle, have any thing to do in government, either by themselves or others.

If they have no share in government. why is the number of members in the assembly, to be increased on their account?

Is it because in some of the states, a considerable part of the property of the inhabitants consists in a number of their fellow men, who are held in bondage, in defiance of every idea of benevolence, justice, and religion, and contrary to all the principles of liberty, which have been publickly avowed in the late glorious revolution?

If this be a just ground for representation, the horses in some of the states, and the oxen in others, ought to be represented — for a great share of property in some of them consists in these animals; and they have as much controul over their own actions, as these poor unhappy creatures, who are intended to be described in the above recited clause, by the words, “all other persons.”

By this mode of apportionment, the representatives of the different parts of the union, will be extremely unequal: in some of the southern states, the slaves are nearly equal in number to the free men; and for all these slaves, they will be entitled to a proportionate share in the legislature — this will give them an unreasonable weight in the government, which can derive no additional strength, protection, nor defence from the slaves, but the contrary.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has hit back at Sean Spicer after he claimed she was "using capitalism to push socialism" by selling merchandise.

Spicer, a former While House press secretary, made the comment in a tweet on Monday that also included a link to a Reuters report about the New York congresswoman's investment in her online store.

Ocasio-Cortez's campaign paid Financial Innovations, a political merchandise firm which operates her online store and supplies merchandise, more than $1.4 million in the first half of 2021, according to campaign disclosures to the Federal Election Commission.

Her store sells T-shirts, hats and other items featuring "AOC," "The Green New Deal" and slogans such as "Tax the Rich" and "Fight for my Future" on them.

According to Reuters, Ocasio-Cortez's heavy investment is "aimed at both fundraising and building the second-term lawmaker's profile nationally."

Ocasio-Cortez's campaign told the agency that the its online store is focused on "uplifting independent artists of color whose work tells a story of community and imagines a more equitable world for all."

But Spicer took to Twitter to suggest the lawmaker — a self-described democratic socialist - selling merchandise was somehow hypocritical.

Ocasio-Cortez responded to Spicer's tweet, stating that "transactions aren't capitalism."

"Not sure if you know this Sean, but transactions aren't capitalism."

"Capitalism is a system that prioritizes profit at any & all human/enviro cost," she wrote in a tweet that amassed more than 40,000 likes in about nine hours.

"But [for what it's worth] our shop is unionized, doesn't operate for profit, & funds projects like free tutoring, food programs, & local organizing."

Webster's dictionary defines capitalism as: "An economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market."

Other Twitter users responded to Spicer's tweet to tell him that he appeared to not understand what capitalism means.

"The right continues to prove it doesn't even understand the one sacrosanct term in its lexicon," one person wrote.

Another person joked: "As much as you get publicly owned, I thought you'd be a big fan of socialism."

Others thanked Spicer for informing them about Ocasio-Cortez's store.

"Wow thanks for alerting me to AOCs business!"

"Can't wait to buy her merchandise!" one person wrote.

Another added: "Not sure what you're trying to say about socialism and capitalism but that looks like some sweet merch!"

"Thanks for the link."

Spicer served as former President Donald Trump's press secretary from January to July 2017, a tenure that included regular clashes with the media.

He went on to appear on ABC's Dancing with the Stars, and now hosts an evening program on conservative network Newsmax.

Last year, he released his second book, titled Leading America: President Trump's Commitment to People, Patriotism, and Capitalism.

Representatives for Ocasio-Cortez and Spicer have been contacted for additional comment.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called for the abolition of the 'carceral system' in the US during a campaign event in Ohio over the weekend.

The Democratic Squad member was campaigning for congressional candidate Nina Turner on Saturday when she said: 'I want to abolish our carceral system that's designed to trap black and brown men.'


'I want justice.'

'I want peace, and I want prosperity.'

'That's what I want,' Ocasio-Cortez added during her speech in Cleveland for the co-chair of Bernie Sander's 2020 presidential campaign.

The country's carceral system refers to its approach to criminal justice and punishment of criminals.

Ocasio-Cortez has long fought for drastic changes to the system that she says unfairly targets black and brown people.

A statement on her official government website reads that she 'is committed to dismantling our system of mass incarceration and ending the school-to-prison pipeline.'

According to the website, her criminal justice reform goals include federally legalizing marijuana, ending for-profit prisons, releasing all individuals incarcerated for nonviolent drug offenses, ending cash bail, and launching independent investigations for every case in which someone is killed by law enforcement.

Ocasio-Cortez shares similar views as Turner, who is running to represent Ohio's 11th congressional district.

The seat was vacated in March by Marcia Fudge, who became President Biden's Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

Turner's campaign is supporting policies like AOC's Green New Deal, Medicare for all, the cancellation of student debt and a $15 per hour minimum wage.

There are 15 candidates - 13 Democrats and two Republicans - vying for the seat.

The 11th district often sways left, so the winner of the Democratic primary may likely determine the winner of the general election.

The Democratic and Republican primaries will be held on August 3, though early voting started two weeks ago.

'This isn't about Nina vs any opponent; this is about the people versus big money,' she said at the event according to WJW.

The congresswoman continued, 'This is a deep blue seat.'

'It's a deep blue seat.'

'Districts like Ohio's 11th should be leading the country on issues.'

'They are opportunities, they are very rare opportunities, very rare districts like this one that can take and be visionary.'

She added, 'If there is anywhere where you can afford to have somebody be bold.'

'If there is any district where you can afford to have somebody who is going to bespeak not only a certain truth to power but stand up and help create a vision that provides
provision.'

'If there is any district where it can be done in the great state of Ohio, it's Ohio 11th district.'

Turner's canvas launch included four different events in Cleveland and Cleveland Heights to help rally volunteers for the last week and a half until the primary.

'Canvasses are where the fight gets won.'

'Right here is where the work happens and I love being where the work happens.'

'Where we actually get our hands dirty in the work of knocking on our doors and having conversations with our neighbors and building actual community.'

'There's no replacement for that,' said Ocasio-Cortez.

One of Turner's opponent's, Cuyahoga County Councilwoman Shontel Brown, a moderate, told WJW in response to Ocasio-Cortez's rally, 'The contrast in this race could not be clearer.'

'Shontel Brown is the only candidate who from day one can work with the Biden administration and our house majority to deliver good-paying jobs, affordable healthcare, and affordable prescription drugs to northeast Ohio.'

Brown, who has been endorsed by Hillary Clinton and House Majority leader Jim Clyburn, also canvassed on Saturday in the west side of Cleveland and held a community cookout in Cleveland Heights Sunday afternoon.

She told WJW, 'I couldn't be more excited that we have an administration that's talking about things through a lens of equity, equality and inclusion so when you're talking about trillions of dollars in infrastructure, that is going to create many job opportunities so we need someone who can be at the table who can make sure we get those resources back into the 11th Congressional District.'

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat, took aim at moderate colleagues critical of the $3.5 trillion reconciliation package Democrats aim to pass with a party-line vote, describing them as "conservative."

Roll Call reporter Lindsey McPherson reported Wednesday that eight to 10 moderate Democrats were considering voting against the massive spending package if Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi does not quickly schedule a vote to pass the roughly $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure deal approved by the Senate this week.

Progressive Democrats and Pelosi, a California Democrat, have maintained that the House will not pass the bipartisan deal without also approving the larger $3.5 trillion legislation in tandem.

"Conservative* House Democrats. Let's stop pretending that Dems who threaten to tank the President's agenda, kill childcare/Medicare expansion, and work w/ GOP to expand the cruelest parts of our immigration system are 'moderate,'" Ocasio-Cortez tweeted on Thursday, sharing the news reported by McPherson.

"They are not moderate."

"They're conservative," the New York progressive wrote.

Despite strong pushback and criticism from former President Donald Trump, 19 Republican senators voted to pass President Joe Biden's large infrastructure legislation on Tuesday after months of bipartisan negotiations.

Biden has hailed the bill as a "historic investment" in the nation's infrastructure, with the $1.2 trillion price tag going toward roads, bridges, public transportation, upgrading the water system, addressing climate change, and expanding broadband internet access.

The Republican and Democratic negotiators behind the bill agreed to specific pay-fors and have said that the legislation will not add to the national debt.

However, the Congressional Budget Office reported that the infrastructure bill would add just over $250 billion to the national debt over the next decade.


Meanwhile, Biden and Democratic leaders aim to pass a much larger "human infrastructure" package with a price tag of about $3.5 trillion.

As no Republicans are expected to support the legislation, the Democrats have turned to the budget reconciliation process to approve the bill — which will allow it to move forward in the Senate without any Republican backing.

But the budget reconciliation process will take time and some moderate Democrats want to swiftly pass the smaller bipartisan bill in the House.

Some moderate Democratic lawmakers in the House and Senate have also expressed concerns about elements of the larger $3.5 trillion package, as well as the overall price tag.

Late last week, moderate Democrats in the House wrote a letter to Pelosi urging her to swiftly schedule a vote on the Senate's bipartisan package.

They also raised concerns about the cost of the larger "human infrastructure" bill, suggesting that it needed more discussion.

They hailed the bipartisan nature of the smaller infrastructure package, suggesting it was not ideal to pass such a massive spending bill without any Republican buy-in.

Progressive lawmakers quickly responded, asserting that both the bipartisan and the partisan legislation must pass together.

"If mods want to blow up the infra deal, that's on them."

"I know this is tough for some to understand, but the US is more than a handful of suburbs - communities outside them aren't disposable," Ocasio-Cortez wrote at the time, retweeting a copy of the letter to Pelosi.

"And just bc something is 'bipartisan' doesn't mean it's good."

"Look at Wall St bailouts," she added.

Representative Pramila Jayapal, a Washington Democrat and the chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, said in a Tuesday statement that the majority of her caucus would not vote for the bipartisan infrastructure package until they can also vote on the reconciliation bill.

Jayapal said that the caucus members had been surveyed and the majority would withhold support.


"Our Caucus is clear: the bipartisan bill will only be passed if a package of social, human, and climate infrastructure — reflecting long-standing Democratic priorities — is passed simultaneously through budget reconciliation."

"We know that Congressional Democrats are committed to delivering immediate and transformational improvements for the lives of the American people, and will hold firm to meet that promise," Jayapal said.

Newsweek reached out to Pelosi's press secretary for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.

"More Democratic voters favor socialism than capitalism in major shift: Poll"

Democrats have grown considerably more accepting of socialism since the coronavirus pandemic began, according to a new poll.

A survey by Fox News conducted this week found that 59% of Democratic voters hold a favorable opinion of socialism, compared to 49% who said the same of capitalism.

Furthermore, 44% of Democrats hold an unfavorable view of capitalism, compared to 31% who view socialism negatively.

The new results are a marked shift from February 2020, when 40% of Democratic voters said they held a favorable view of socialism, compared to half who said the same about capitalism.

Among Republicans, the difference in ideology was stark.

Some 67% of GOP voters said they hold a favorable opinion of capitalism, and a mere 8% said they viewed socialism in a positive light.

The poll comes as the House has become imbued with a vocal contingent of socialists and those who support socialist priorities.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York was elected in 2018 after a shocking primary upset and has since championed policies such as "Medicare for All" and the Green New Deal.

Ocasio-Cortez and Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts made waves after entering office, with the self-proclaimed “Squad” having outsize influence within the party and attracting much media attention, at times to the chagrin of party leadership.


Reps. Jamaal Bowman of New York and Cori Bush of Missouri, both members of the Democratic Socialists of America, were sworn into Congress after last year’s election.

Republicans have seized on the growing appetite for further-left positions within the Democratic Party and have used it as a cudgel against Democrats more generally and to gin up support for the GOP through anti-socialist messaging.
