They never claimed to be "the best we have." Only that they wanted the job.

It doesn't matter what either of them said about anything, really ...

It is about what the so-called "forefathers" in all their political writings back at the beginning touting this form of government we now have told us we would have on the one hand - the best among us in high office - and what we wouldn't have on the other - which is the toxic factionalism we do have and the morons who end up out of everybody in the nation being placed in the highest office of the land ...

Looking back to the beginning of the USA, there are only a small number of presidents (or Congresspeople) you could call "the best". Most were mediocre at best, tRUMP-like at worst.

Somehow, we muddled through.

Muddling through has gotten more difficult with the rise of globalization to take jobs away from people and the rise of social media and hate radio as a platform for them to bitch about it.

I'm with you a hundred percent there, jeffmoskin ...

Except both Joe Biden and tRUMP did in fact say they were the very best America ever had to offer in all of its years of existence ...

And Joe did run a HATE CAMPAIGN not only against tRUMP, but his supporters as well, who Joe called "DREGS OF SOCIETY," calling for tRUMP's overthrow in what had to be the most hate-filled and toxic and downright venomous political speeches in the history of toxic and venomous political speeches since Hitler's Speech at the Krupp Factory in Germany in 1935:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ3N_2r6R-o

Joe made the campaign about winning the BATTLE FOR THE SOUL OF AMERICA, casting himself in the role of MAHDI and tRUMP in the role of pure evil personified ...

So it was really a religious crusade that Joe campaigned on ...

If you were on Joe's side, you were then automatically a good person and Joe would shower a lot of benefits down on you if only you would join him in the BATTLE FOR THE SOUL OF AMERICA which was to take place at the Capitol on 6 January 2021 ...

Be there and be armed because that is the only thing that tRUMP and his army of DREGS OF SOCIETY understand - a real good beating!

That's what I got out of Joe's incredible message of tRUMP HATE on 31 August 2020, anyway: https://thelivyjrfiles.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=231

And people in America who love violence loved that speech and Joe for making it because it gave them the excuse they needed to go out and commit acts of violence against those in America who don't vote Democrat like a good and proper American should, and the legitimacy to do so - "THE PRESIDENT TOLD ME TO DO IT!"

What better excuse for the commission of acts of violence towards others is there than that?

And talk about toxic and poisonous politics, jeffmoskin, in all truth, I do not recall a politician stooping so low to incite mob passions in this country as Joe Biden did on 31 August 2020 since April 10, 1901, when Democrat William Randolph Hearst’s Journal attacked then-U.S. president McKinley in an editorial that ended with the following words: “Institutions, like men, will last until they die; and if bad institutions and bad men can be got rid of only by killing, then the killing must be done,” following that up in June by publishing another editorial that suggested “assassination can be a good thing.”

Three months later, Leon Czolgosz, 28, a self– described “socialist anarchist” shot McKinley in the stomach in Buffalo, New York, and the president lingered for a week before dying.

Was Joe Biden calling for the assassination of Donald tRUMP on 31 August 2020?

Seems to to me, anyway ...

But who can be surprised because that is the low level presidential politics in America have now sunk to, where you gain office by calling for the eradication off the face of the earth of your rivals ...

Bob Woodward used to have a reputation for being fairly savvy politically so you really have to wonder how come it is that he missed the obvious fact that it was Joe Biden who set the stage and primed the pump for that political violence at the Capitol on 6 January 2021 with his toxic and venomous and poisonous political speech on 31 August 2020 calling on his supporters to overthrow tRUMP if not actually assassinate him ...

I posted the transcript of it ...

So he certainly made the speech ...

Unless he want to claim now that the transcript was some kind of tRUMPIAN deep state conspiracy kind of thing to make Joe look bad ...

When you post a transcript of what you actually said, like Joe Biden did of his 31 August speech at Carnegie-Mellon, it really is a bit difficult after the fact to come back and say you really didn't say what the transcript of your speech does say you said ...
